Leather care products - The right care for your beloved leather.
New leather doesn't need care? Think again. If you want to enjoy your beloved shoes, leather jackets, wallets , and more for a long time, you can't avoid proper care. But: not all leather care products are created equal. Even if almost all leathers are single-colored and surface-dyed, there are still significant differences in their care. The enormous selection of creams, oils, and fats only adds to the confusion. We'll tell you which product is right for your favorite leather goods and what to look for when buying.
Many people avoid using any care products altogether for fear of using the wrong one. However, this is the wrong approach: (Almost) any care product is usually better than none at all. Even though there is virtually no risk of new leather drying out or becoming brittle initially, you should start caring for the leather in good time. Because especially light-colored leather gets dirty quickly, shows visible signs of wear , or in the worst case, even discoloration from clothing, such as dark jeans. To avoid this, there are special care products .
WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR WHEN BUYING LEATHER CARE PRODUCTS?
Generally speaking: Not only the quality (and price) of the care product are important criteria, but above all the type of leather to be treated. Leather can be new or used, matte or shiny, perforated, embossed or even with decorative stitching. If it is also a particularly valuable type of leather, you should use correspondingly higher-quality care products. Here, synthetic oils are used, which do not become rancid and do not provide a breeding ground for bacteria and mold. In addition, additional UV filters prevent the leather from being bleached by the sun. It is recommended to do a "sniff test" when buying leather care products: A strong smell does not bother shoes, but can be unpleasant on jackets, bags or wallets. In case of doubt, the effect of care products can always be tested beforehand on a concealed area. In addition, the care product should always be applied with a light cloth.
